Time seems to be passing us by faster than before, and we’re seeing this take effect on the growth of our next generation as well. Technology has been interwoven into almost all households around the world as it has become a source of entertainment, but more so basic education. Today, a lot of children are learning how to count, read the alphabet, and even basic morals through various cartoons online; and though this may be quite the departure from those old educational posters and floormats from our youth, there is a way for us to take advantage of this so that we can continue to emphasize on nurturing the next generation’s knowledge rather than letting it become another distraction.
The youth of today has fetched the moniker of “digital natives” as they are able to adapt to digital trends, and can easily navigate and integrate themselves within the endless amounts of media and information on the internet. This, then, allows the youth to discover their own interests and possibly their future careers. As we continue to innovate on technology, future generations could become our new pioneers and discover the solutions to the problems that riddle our world. The thing is though, most students under the K-12 system are not being prepared for careers in STEM, and because of this, some of the jobs that proceed them are not as bountiful as we tend to believe. Careers in IT Development, IT Architechture, and System Development are said to be some of the most in-demand positions today; and while the youth continue their educational journey in a branch like STEM, they can still discover other fields that could greatly contribute to innovation.
Though it is true that we are free to be who want to be, it should be important to acknowledge the potential that future minds hold. Each generation is meant to make the next live a better, safer, and healthier life, and with the help of technology, who knows what would accomplish as a society moving forward?

Domestic violence is usually not a common topic in day-to-day conversations and does not receive as much attention. However, it is actually more prevalent than we think. Definitively, domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behaviors exhibited by one individual with the intent to exert power and control over another which includes physical and verbal assaults, threats, intimidation, and the like. Domestic violence knows no boundaries. It is widely experienced in households, in romantic relationships, by people of color, and among members of the LGBTQ+ community.
What really led to the recent rise in cases of domestic violence? The COVID-19 Pandemic. Alongside the rise of COVID-19 cases is the alarming rise of domestic violence which rose an average of 27% worldwide from 2019 to 2020. While most of us were trying to figure out ways to combat the boredom of being stuck at home, a 17- year old Polish high school student spent her time launching a fake online cosmetic shop to offer a lifeline to victims of domestic violence trapped in their homes. Krystyna Paszko got inspiration from a French initiative wherein people go to the pharmacy and ask for a special mask that lets the pharmacist know they are victims of domestic violence. From this, Krystyna launched “Camomiles and Pansies”, ideally so the victims can hide from their abusers by appearing to be online shopping when they are actually asking for help. Instead of a salesperson responding to the “orders”, a psychologist will do so and ask how long the “skin problems” have been going on, or the severity of the “skin condition”. If the victim then places an order and leaves an address, this is actually a coded request for authorities to visit their home.
Krystyna’s long-running passion for human and women’s rights inspired her to act against the rising cases of domestic violence. What started as a small initiative for her friends, turned out to be of help to more than 350 people who have used the website. This is primarily because the younger generation or teenagers more often reach for social media such as Facebook as compared to calling via phone. What we, the youth can take away from this is that we can choose not to allow social media to become a toxic environment for us. Taking inspiration from Kyrstyna, we can use the advancements in technology and the power of social media to our advantage to educate and inspire more people to help others for the betterment of the future.

Modern science and technology have continuously proven to be humanity’s greatest discoveries. The advancement and development of these two have provided the world with a myriad of possibilities. In just one touch, you will be transported to a virtual space where you can talk to a friend or a loved one regardless of distance, live out a vast fantasy world through a cellphone that you can fit in your pocket, and a whole lot more. Technology has unlocked countless possibilities that are far beyond our comprehension. It is used to make lives easier for many and bring ideas to reality. Just as in the case of Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra, two teens who dropped out of Stanford University to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
Utilizing the capabilities of technology, Palicha and Vohra developed their very own app, Zepto. Zepto has become one of India’s fastest-growing e-commerce services and is nearing a value of more than $1 billion. The start-up company promises groceries will be right outside your doorstep in less than 10 minutes. Despite the large and ruthless competition in the instant commerce trend, it has caught the attention of investors. Just nine months after its debut, it received its most recent funding investment of $200 million in May 2022, giving the company $900 million in value. The idea started when they discovered the potential in the surging demand for delivery services amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide lockdown. “Online groceries would take six to seven days to deliver, while offline options were practically shut down or unavailable. It was incredibly difficult for us to get groceries,” said Palicha. The two built a network of “dark stores,” or micro-distribution centers, throughout cities to quickly distribute grocery orders. Zepto claims that it now employs thousands of delivery drivers and runs hundreds of dark stores in ten Indian cities. Palicha stated that at this time, “90 to 95 percent” of its orders are delivered within five to twenty minutes.
What was once a personal project for their small-scale neighborhood has become one of the most lucrative and most used delivery services in India. According to the startup, it gains 100,000 new users every day. “It eventually evolved into the company that we are today, which we’re incredibly grateful for,” Palicha stated. It is absolutely incredible how much power and how many creative possibilities technology holds and creates. Everyone is capable of unlocking their potential, just like Palicha and Vohra who are just two 19-year-olds. Here in Knovo, we are leveraging the power of technology to bring out the potential in everyone.
