I'm You, but Better!

It surely goes without saying that the way students today learn and behave in school is radically different from how it was before. Gone are the overhead projectors and correction fluid stains on your notebooks, as we now live in a world where students can know how the course ends before introductory classes even begin!

In 2019, the eLearning industry reported that microlearning took about 60% of total learning methods in the year prior. It’s become evident as well through how media is consumed today that the usual attention span of the average person is much shorter than before. Though this may come with its challenges, it is still rather adaptive for educators to provide the type of content that will allow students to still be hands-on and generally engaged in learning something from a day in school. Apart from this, it does go without saying that students are more likely to bring a laptop or a tablet with them to school these days rather than the conventional pen and paper; and with the integration of hub platforms from online schooling, the importance of having devices has become more essential.

What’s important is ensuring that active learning stays at the forefront of education as it is no longer as effective to just take in information through mere lectures and presentations. Critical thinking is necessary for creating and maintaining a proper flow of thought, especially in moments where it matters the most. As students make their return to the classrooms this year, the skills that critical thinking provides will be used a lot more since there is no longer the need to take time in processing answers behind the screen. Educators should be more interactive with the way that they teach and encouraging as this will only prove beneficial in both the student’s educational journey and the educators as well.

Technology has allowed for education to be found practically everywhere at this point, and with the presence of short-form education through micro-learning as well as the general presence of the internet, to say that things are not what they used to be would be rather redundant. Instead, let’s embrace and adjust to the new normal of education since as we continue our education journeys, there will always be something new to learn along the way.

Tech on the Go

With the incredible capabilities of technology, a lot of students are looking for fun educational supplies that are both functional and fun. If you are one of those students, we have got you covered! We will be sharing three cool and trendy tech advancements perfect for modern students like you.

First on the list, we have a simple yet impressive innovation that fuses both technology and education and caters exactly to students’ needs. A smart pen utilizes smart software that digitally records all your notes from classes. Yes, it automatically digitalizes the handwritten notes you take during class. Another cool feature is that it has a sensitive microphone that records audio. This way, if you miss a detail from your professor’s lecture, it can easily record this for you to get back on later. To make it more accessible, the software allows you to export your notes to applications such as Google Docs.

If you are one of those students who always run out of battery on their gadgets, you might be interested in this next innovation. Tech backpacks do not only store all your supplies and gadgets, but they also allow you to charge your devices without the hassle of looking for a socket to plug your chargers in. Tech backpacks are equipped with a few solar panels, which is why you will never have to worry about drained gadgets again. Because of this feature, tech backpacks are also environmentally friendly!

A lot of students carry around keyboards in school for when they type down their notes or when doing their academic papers. However, a lot of these are usually bulky and such a hassle to carry around. This virtual keyboard might just be your new best friend. The device itself is just a little bigger than a Tic Tac box and, once turned on, projects a laser with the keyboard keys for you to type on directly. All you have to do is Bluetooth it to your device, and your text will be synced in real-time.

All these devices are cool, functional, and perfect in and out of school. But, keep in mind that purchasing new gadgets can serve as a motivation, but will not guarantee good grades. It is still up to you, as students, to do your part—reading, understanding, and studying your lectures—to be able to see the fruits of your labor.
